NOTES.

A comprehensive survey of the Feilding borough finances is to he given by the Mayor (Mr T. L. .Soddon) at the monthly meeting of the council this week. Mr Seddon states that the year ended with a small credit balance and that the council is now £4OOO better off than it was at this time last year. No increase in rates is envisaged, but the possible withdrawal of subsidised labour may result in some of the maintenance work being curtailed during the present- rear. The council has twelve men working under the subsidised labour scheme.

Last evening many Feilding residents observed the display of the aurora australis seen in the southern skv. Tim phenomenon was very brilliant and spectacular, and resembled the glare of a distant fire.
