THREE CARS CONVERTED. LEVIN, April 17. Two j'ouths who, despite the fact that they attracted a great deal of attention to themselves by their conduct, that they met with a mishap with a converted ear on Saturday, and have since removed two others cars, have so far not been apprehended. In Wellington on Saturday they removed a light sports car and proceeded northwards. They met with an accident when the vehicle failed to negotiate the bend on to the small overhead bridge south of Dlanakau, and ran down the slope into the fern. A breakdown wagon was summoned from Otaki, but when it arrived the car had been retrieved by a passing lorry. The wagon driver’s efforts to win bis expenses gained for him only abuse, and the stolen car continued on its way. Further on the two youths decided to change a damaged wheel, and, having no tools, hailed passing motorists, who also came in tor abuse. A traffic officer arrived on the scene and he received his share of the abuse with the result that he handed the driver a “ticket” for not having a license and for failure to carry a warrant of fitness.

The throwing of the damaged wheel into a private gateway led to a resident .gaining the impression that the vehicle had been stolen, and be communicated with Traffic-Inspector Fowler at Levin. The police were also_ informed, but a vigilant look-out failed to locate the culnrits. About 9 o’clock tile same night Dir S. Df. Cadwallader, of Levin, reported liis car to be missing. and shortly afterwards the Wellington vehicle was found abandoned in Bath Street, while Mr Cadwallader’s ear was found in Cambridge Street. Later Dir C. Adlin, of Foxton Rond, found that his car was missing, and it was located at Cook Street, Palmerston North, on Sunday morning with all the lights burning.
