CANADIAN ATTITUDE.
IN EVENT OF AVAR. QUESTION OF OVERSEAS SERVICE. Received March '29, 1.50 p.m. OTTAWA. Marcli 28. Canada’s status in the event of wails approaching a crisis in the House of Commons. In an interview, Dr R. J. Mnnion, the Conservative and Opposition Leader, stated: "When Britain is at war there is no such tiling as Canadian neutrality. Neutrality is for the enemy to decide. I do not believe that Canadian youth should be conscripted to light outside Canada. The Dominion could better play its part by full cooperation with Britain by means of volunteers, munitions, and foods.” High British military authorities had told him that Britain would not expect Canada to. send an expeditionary force. ]n the House of Commons, the Prime Minister (AH Mackenzie King), acknowledging a. petition from 21 Freneh-Canadian societies opposing Canadian participation in any Europeon war,, announced that the House would t>e thrown open shortly for a full-dress foreign policy debate. A Quebec message says that bOO students from the I.av.al University invaded the Legislature, shouting ‘‘No conscription!” They demanded an immediate vote upon an Opposition member’s resolution that Quebec should urge the Dominion to pledge itself not to enter a European war. Police cleared the Chamber on the orders of the Premier (Mr Dnplessis).
