LINES ON ROADS.

REQUEST TO COUNCIL. The secretary of the Alanawatu Automobile Association (Air S. I. AfeKenzie) wrote to the Alanawatu County Council to-day stating that the Alain Highways Board had adopted a scheme of painting double white lines on curves where it was considered that it was dangerous for motorists to overtake and pass others. In this connection arrangements had laxm made so that the engineers of the Public Works Department would consult the automobile associations before any such double lines were painted. It had been suggested that the same procedure he extended to subsidiary roads, and in order to obtain uniformity it had been suggested that if the council decided to adopt the scheme it might be good enough to arrange for its engineer to consult the association and an engineer from the Public Works Department before making any of the curves. Cr. D. W. Reid mentioned the road to Wanganui, and said he could see no objection to the proposal. The chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) said that the association did very good work, and he thought that the council could do nothing but support it. He suggested that the engineer meet an officer of the association as suggested. It was a splendid association, which did more for the motorist than any other body. Cr. Reid moved that the suggestion be acceded to and this was agreed to.
