DAHLIA SHOW

HALCOMBE FIXTURE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) HALCOMBE, March 27. The dahlia show held in the JubiiCo lfall was an outstanding success. Members oi the Halcoinbc-Kakariki branch of the VV.D.F.U. were well rewarded for their enterprise in reviving interest in tlowers, and the show should now be established as an annual event. Thanks arc due to those who assisted with donations and prizes, and the branch is indebted to Mr E. O. Bryce, whose enthusiasm and help were much appreciated. Mr T. L. Seddon. in opening the show, congratulated the branch on the wondertul display of blooms. In a garden, he said, one seemed to contact Nature in all its loveliness, and jn these troublous time it was a pity tha more attention was not directed to ’ , beautiful things a garden portrayed instead of to a welter of destruction, file ptesident (Mrs E. W. Barnett) paid a tribute to the zeal displayed by all who had worked so well. An outstanding feature of the show was a wonderful display of Maoit carving executed by Rev. I’. 11. Leonard, of Marton. The champion dahlia was exhibited by Mr E. O. Pryce. Judges in the various sections were: Dahlias and \ egotables, Mr J. Mason; decorative, Mrs A. Gibson; needlework, Mrs Sutton; New Zealand trees and shrubs. Mrs Olliver and Ml McKenzie; cooking, Mrs Bryce. THE PRIZE LIST. DAHLIAS (AMATEUR).
