MANAWATU COMPETITIONS. FINAL MATCHES BEGUN. The final series of games in the Manawatu senior A cricket competition . i were commenced on Saturday under j ideal weather conditions. Palmerston , again showed good form, scoring 256; I runs for the loss of seven wickets ; against Kia Toa, but the other hatting sides were not as successful. Old i Boys were dismissed for 101 against United, who replied with 149 for nine wickets. Combined Services scored 111 against City. Three centuries were scored throughout all grades. G. Hohortsnn (Palmerston) knocking up 105 in the senior A division, while L. Hart made 108 not out in the junior A and H. Carr 103 (retired) in the junior B.

Y.M.C.A. WIN COMPETITION. Gaining an eight-point win over Old Boys at the Sportsground, Y.M.C.A. won the senior B grade competition. Y.M.C.A. have only once this season not secured a straight-out win against an opposing side, and that was just before Christmas, when they met Old Boys. Playing against Kia Toa, City secured a win. Batting first, they made 142 (Osborne 33, Dilks 29, Fisher 33, Bell 15). In their strike, Kia Toa made only 3-1 (MeDowalJ 7 ; Dilks 5 for 8, Fisher 2 for 10). Kia Toa followed on and at the call of time had lost six wickets for 54 (Whittaker 19. Allan 12; Blackwell 2 for 5, Osborne 2 for 1). Scoring 58 in their first innings (Cummings IS; Burton 6 for 24, Maxwell 3 for 13), , Optimists beat Y.M.C.A., who put on 36 (Kay 16; Kempson 6 for 13, Zaloum 3 for 23). Optimists made 118 (Rice 20, Kenipson 52; Burton 5 for 41) in their second knock, and when Y.M.C.A.’s innings closed they had only 13 runs on (Kenipson 5 for 5, Znloum 3 for 5). Services made 180 (Bowie 44 Davidson 41, McLean 36, Chapman 26; Hardie 7 for 48). In a onodav match in the junior A grade United beat Palmerston by 22 runs on the first innings.
