WOODVILLE GUN CLUB.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Mr J. T. Horne presided over the annual meeting; of the Woodville Gun Club held on Friday evening.

The report, stated that during the year eight shoots were held, all of which had been well attended. Circumstances had prevented the contests for the Woodville county championship and the club championship being held earlier, but those events had been completed that, dav, the winners being Messrs J. T., Horne and E. Sargent. respectively. An innovation during the past year had been a junior championship, the classification of a junior l>eing a shooter on the 15-yard mark or under. Mr A. Ramsden was live winner, breaking all of his birds, Mr G. L. Hartridge being runner-up with 11. A double rise competition for a cup presented by Mr G. Wickes provided keen sport, the trophy Ijeing won by Mr B. Tv. Thomson, after a shoot-off with Mr A. Ramsden. Mr J. Martin again came to the front in winning the Maekie Cup, while the Tsherwood Cup was annexed by Mr C. Maekie. The Christmas shoot had again proved to he the most popular competition of the year, no fewer than 20 members being on tho mark. The

average attendance at all shoots had been 15. Thanks were tendered to Alessrs G. L. Hartridge, for the use of his property; W. H. Toogood, lor his invaluable services as handicapper and referee; C. Smith, puller; AY. Toogood, trapper; donors of trophies, club supporters and the Press. The balance-sheet showed the total receipts at £B3 3s sd, the expenditure leaving a credit of £6 14s Id. There was a. substantial balance of assets over liabilities, and the club also had a reserve of a considerable number of clay birds, the present value of which was actually greater than that disclosed in the balance-sheet. The secretary (Mr F. D. Mackie) gave particulars of a number of items.

Mr Ramsden considered the position a very satisfactory one, and he noted that the club had sufficient clay birds for the next season. On his motion, seconded by Mr C. Maekie, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho election of -officers resulted: —Patron, Mr W. H. Nelson (re-elect-ed) ; president. Mr J. T. Horne (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Turnbull, W. Brotherstone, G. B. ]>’Ath. W. J. Miller, A. Ramsden, W. W. Cook (all re-elected) and Mr G. Wickes.; secretary-treasurer, Mr F. T>. Maekie, who was re-elected and. voted an honorarium ; honorary auditor, Mr N. E. Robertson (re-elected); committee, Messrs G. L. Hartridge, Rory Smith, C. Maekie. A. P. Jensen. R. G. Smith (all re-elected) and Mr J. T. Martin: handicapper and referee, Mr W. H. Toogood (re-elected). In proposing si vote of thanks, Mr Horne stated tha-t the club had nowhad the nse of Mr Hartridge’s property for 12 years. Mr J. Donnelly offered 75 cartridges for trophies in a match for men firing from 15 yards or inside, and Mr G. Wickes undertook to present a challenge cup, also for competition among junior marksmen. Mr A. Ramsden said he would give a trophy for a sealed handicap competition. Votes of thanks were accorded these donors. On the motion of Mr A. Ramsden it was decided to apply to have the 1940 Hawke’s Bay championships held at Woodville. Mr Horne stated that Woodville had Iveon asked to enter a team of fire in the competition for the Dougins Rose Bowl shortly to bo held at Diannevirke. Hastings, Napier and Dannevirke clube were entering, he said, the match to lie of 15 birds from 18 yards. He moved that Mr W. H. Toogood lx? asked to select a team, and the motion was carried. CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS. The Gun Club championship wars shot off on Saturday, the winner beiwg E. Sargent, with T. Wrigley runnerup. The county championship was competed for bv six marksmen and was won by J. T. Horne, with C. Mackie second. Conditions were good, except for a difficult cross wind.
