COMING-OF-AGE.
NGAWAPURUA CELEBRATION
The Ngawapurua Hall presented an unusually gay scene on Saturday night, being festooned with Chinese lanterns, coloured balloons and other bright decorations. Considerably over 100 guests assembled a.t the invitation of Air 'and Airs Stewart Mclntosh to eelebrate the coming-of-ago of their daughter Zelma. Visitors were present from AVellington, AVanganui. Napier, Dannevirke, Palmerston North. Pahiatua, Levin, Linton. Kairanga and other districts. Mrs Afclnlosh received the guests, wearing black lace and georgette, whilst the guest of honour wore pink lace and taffeta. The latter young lady was the recipient of many congratulations, and a great number of beautiful presents. The latter included a handsome silver tea service from her parents. Congratulatory speeches were made by Messrs Ray Alorgan and E. Gohns (Wanganui, grandfather of Aiiss AlcTntosh). the speakers voicing the popular esteem in which the guest of honour and Air and Airs 8. Mclntosh and family are held, as evidenced by the very large gathering. Mr S. Swenson (Dannevirke) made an excellent response on behalf of Aiiss Afclntosh, whilst Air AlcTntosh returned thanks for the representative attendance, and tributes paid. He also expressed appreciation of the services given by various friends in making the celebration such a success. The cutting of the artistically-designed birthday cake, the lighting and extinguishing of 21 candles, and the presentation by Air Mclntosh to his daughter of the traditional gold key were features of the gathering. The cake bore several symbols pertaining to the ooming-of-age. The customary musical honours wore given. Supper was served, also with cooling drinks. Air G. C. Isakson was M.C. and Mr H. Brooker pianist. Contributors to the musical programme were Airs lan Hutchinson and Messrs A. and J. Piswsey (Palmerston North), and J. A. llosewarne (Napier). AVinners of novelty dances were Aiiss A T oung (Linton), and Air Free (Tokoraarn), Airs R. Alorgan and Mr L. Smith, Aiiss H. Hall, and Mr J. Pizzev. The winner of a lucky number competition was Air D. Baker (AA’angamii). The visitors included Afrs A. McIntosh (Palmerston North), grandmother of the guest of honour. The function, which was a very gay anti happy one. was characterised by enthusiasm, and Air and Airs Mclntosh were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their liberal hospitality.
