PRESENTATION OF CUP.

OWNER’S FOURTH WIN. There could have been no more pleasing ceremony than the presentatinn of the Awapuni Gold Cup, won by Beaupartir, to his owner, Mr T. U. Lowry, and Mrs Lowry,_yesterday afternoon, by Hon. P. C. Webb, himself a well-known sportsman, who was called upon by the president of the club, Mr L. IT. Collinson, to present the coveted trophy. Congratulating Mr Lowry upon being the owner of such a wonderful horse, .Mr Webb said that he agreed with Mr Lowry when the latter 1 bought the colt to be the best in New Zealand. Air Lowry had now won the Cup four times, that popular and famous mare. Desert Gold having succeeded for him three times. Mr Webb expressed the opinion that Beaupartir was nearly as good, and ho congratulated Mrs A. W. McDonald upon being such a popular and efficient trainer. The horse had heen wellhandled b.v the Auckland horseman, H. N. Wiggins, who had won many good races. Continuing, Mr Webb said that the Manawatu Racing Club liad deservedly been well supported by horse owners, and the Awanuni Gold Cup race was probably on a par with the New Zealand Cup so far as the horses were concerned. Air Lowry was particularly to be commended for the importation and breeding of the best blood strains.
