PERSONAL.

Hon. P. C- Webb, Minister of Labour, was a visitor to the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni todav.

Mr Masson Gilray, of Waimarama, is the guest of the president of the Manawatu Racing Club, Mr L. H. Collinson, and Mrs Collinson, of Grey Street, for the Manawatu races.

Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister in charge of the Housing Department, is visiting Palmerston North in connection with his department. He ex pects to return to Wellington to-mor-row.

Mr T. C. Brash, secretary of the New Zealand Dairy Board since its inception, is to retire this year. Appreciation of the services to the dairy industry given by Mr Brash was expressed at a meeting of North Canterbury producers, this week.

The Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) returned to Dunedin yesterday from a visit to the Homer tunnel. He left for Christchurch this morning, states a Press Association message.

A well-known figure in the building industry in Auckland, Mr F. G. Alfrev, building inspector of the Public Works Department, -will retire on superannuation at the end of this month. He has been in the service of the department for. 39 years, and in Auckland for 22 years. The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr William Sydney Fagan, who was known throughout New Zealand m his day as a most successful distance runuer and wrestler. He was born in County Westmeath, Ireland, 81 years ago and came to New Zealand with his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Fagan, when he was seven years of age. Mr Fagan came into prominence as a wrestler and runner in the ’eighties.
