WRESTLING.
PALMERSTON NORTH ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING
At the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Wrestling Association, held last evening, Mr G. Watchorn presided. There was a large attendance of enthusiasts.
'l'he report stated : “It has now become recognised that the standard of wrestling in this centre calls for the hc-st professional talent available, and the committee have followed this policy during the current year. Only sever, professional contests were staged during the season, hut practically without exception those were of outstanding merit and the support accorded by the public was most gratifying. “The association was represented by a team of six wrestlers at the Wellington provincial championships, and although only one member (1). Cudby) was successful in winning the championship, all the rest of the members were runners up in their classes. Unfortunately, Cudby was unsuccessful in the New Zealand championships. The thanks of the committee are due to Colonel Whyte for his capable management of our team at the Wellington championships. “During the year the association secured a lease of premises from Mr A. Hop wood and installed their own gymnasium at the rear of Messrs Manson and Barr’s premises in Rangitikoi Street. Unfortunately, the completion of this gymnasium was delayed until practically the conclusion of the season and the amateur wrestlers were unable to obtain the full benefits of tlie facilities placed at their disposal by the association. However, the committee feel that the excellent facilities now available will be reflected in the rising of the standard of amateur wrestling in this district.
“A perusal of the balance-sheet shows that the association continues to enjoy a successful season financially, and the finances have been maintained in a very strong position. The thanks of the association are extended to thoso who in any way contributed to the success ol tlie season and particularly to the honorary medical officers, the members, and the police. The committee take the opportunity of congratulating Superintendent Cummings on his promotion to take charge of the Auckland Police District, although his removal from Palmerston North will be greatly missed by the association. During his term in Palmerston North, Superintendent Cummings rendered very valuable assistance to the association, and on behalf of the committee the president personally called on him beiore his departure and expressed the appreciation of the association to him. “1,, conclusion,” the report added, “I desire to extend my personal thanks to the various officers of the association and especially to the committee lor their loval co-operation during the year, and I trust that the coming season will be even more successful than the last.” The officers ’elected are: —Patron, Mr A E.
