The shortage of shipping spare is now being seriously felt in tho meat freezing industry in the Auckland province. As a result of procure.on storage space at the freezing works, killing is being restricted and exporters are curtailing their operations. The lines affected are chilling cattle honors, ewes and wethers. No relief in shipping space will be forthcoming until next, month. Deteriorated Lands. “A truly awful business” was the description given to the question of deteriorated farmlands at a meeting of the Wairarapa provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union. The president (Mr H. Morrison.) explained that in the Wairarapa the position was economic because with costs and prices for their produce as they were farmers could not keep their land cleared. The other day lie saw a flock of beautiful ewes, hut ho knew the country off which they came would have to bo- abandoned within a decade because of costs. The position was very serious. Reflecting the damage suffered by pastures in North Auckland during the prolonged dry spell the outputs of the various dairy companies in the area have all shown a decline. The |>aymeiits to suppliers, however, except in the case of tho Hikurangi Company, show an increase owing to the advanced guaranteed price. The total amount that will he dispersed to suppliers by the dairy companies operating ill the Whangaroi district for February supplies amounts to approximately £72,003.
