MAILS BY AIR.
AMERICAN CHARGES. WASHINGTON, Feh. 14. Pan-American Airways have asked 3,680,000 dollars in a lump sum as the contract price for carrying the mails across the Pacific. Hitherto they have received two million annually. It is said that the present transpacific service is operating at a loss of 900,000 dollars annually.
