FIRES SUBDUED.
AUSTRALIAN OUTBREAKS. MELBOURNE, Feb. 14. A cool change which is expected to last two days has brought an end to the bush fire danger for the present. Although 40 houses were endangered in various places yesterday only four were destroyed, the change in the wind sweeping the fires hack into the burnt out country. The lire-fighters are still standing by in case of emergencies. An open finding was recorded by the Coroner to-day at the inquests on the fight victims of the Toolangi fire last month.
The Coroner said that lie was unable to say with certainty how the fire began, but he was inclined to agree with the forest officers that the fire was deliberately lighted.
The total fire relief fund is now reaching the £200,000 mark but the claims lodger! total £.1,000,000-
