LICENSING COMMITTEES

EFFECT OF BOUNDARY CHANGES

In consequence of the change of boundaries in the electorates, the licensing committees which have been operating for the licensing districts of Manawatu (at Foxton) and Oroua (at Feilding) will hold their last meetings in the first week of March, after which, the Oroua Licensing Committee will no longer exist, and one committee, to he called the Manawatu Licensing Committee, will be instituted. For this purpose the returning officer for the Manawatu electorate at Feilding (Mr F. S. Collier) will shortly call for nominations for the election of five members of the new licensing committee. If more than live nominations are received an election will be held throughout the whole of the Manawatu electoral district in March in a manner similar to the recent general election. The old Manawatu Licensing Committee at Foxton and the Oroua Licensing Committee at Feilding will then become defunct and a new Licensing Committee elected will in future sit at Feilding. Whereas the expenses of the general election were paid by the Government, the expenses for the election for the Licensing Committee are met by the local controlling body, which in this case will he the Feilding Borough Council. THE HOTELS AFFECTED. Through the recent change of electoral boundaries, the following hotels will be placed in the Rangitikei licensing district: —Kimbolton, Mangaweka, Ohingaiti, Hunterville (2), Rangiwahia and Cheltenham; and also wholesale licenses held at Hunterville and Mangaweka. The hotels which will be taken into the new Manawatu Licensing District will be those at Longburn, Awahuri and Sanson. Arrangements for the conduct of the election are now in the hands of the returning officer at Feilding. The Oroua Licensing Committee has boon functioning for 36 years. The first reported annual meeting was held on June 8, 1903, at which there were present Messrs A. Greenfield, S.M. (chairman), AV. A. L. Bailey, F. Y. Lethbridge, A. Dick, R. Mcßeth and John Bruce.

The committee at present holding office comprises: Messrs R. M. Watson, S.M. (chairman), T. Watson, P. G. Guy, W. G. Booth. G. Bartholomew and E. G. Goodbehere.
