PERMANENT OCCUPATION?
POWERS’ ATTITUDE MAY CHANGE.

The newspaper Le Temps states that if the occupation of Hainan Island is intended to ho permanent, France and Britain might find it necessary to revise their attitude towards the SinoJapanese conflict and the general situation in the Far East. BRITISH CONCERN.
REPRESENTATIONS TO TOKIO
LONDON, Feb. 12.
The British Government is closely making contact with the French authorities in connection with the Japanese occupation of Hainan Island. Tt is making representations to Tokio similar to those of tho French Ambassador.

Mr Chamberlain was asked in the House of Commons, if he was aware that the Japanese had landed on Hainan, and whether he would immediately consult with France with a view to the joint protection of Anglo-French interests. Air Butler, who replied, said: “Yes. Lord Halifax is already in touch with France on this matter.” He added that no reply had yet been received from Japan to Britain s Note regarding China.
