REFUGEE APPEAL.
Events which have shocked the whole of the civilised world have been happening in TCurope during the past six years. A reign of terror has been established which for sheer brutality has no modern parallel and which has resulted in the torture ond death of thousands, and the impoverishment and expatriation of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. This outbreak of barbarism has been intensified during the past twelve months, and people who, because of their religion, their race or thpir creed offend the sensibilities of the ruling parties in a. number of European countries find themselves faced with the alternatives of banishment or the concentration camp. There have been refugees and refugee problems before but it is doubtful if over there has been a time in the world’s history when mass migration has been obligatory on so many j;>ooplc at once. Those members of the iPalmcrston North community who think that New Zealand can do more than it is now doing in helping to alleviate the suffering of innocent people will lie glad of the opportunity of coining to a citizens’ meeting in the Municipal Ilall on Thursday.
