SUMMER HOCKEY.
A meeting of the Summer Hotkey Executive was held last evening. Mr D. Wilton presiding. Reference was made to the passing of Mr G. Scales, those present standing in respect. [le was a very keen player and the captain of the Broadway team, which won the senior B champion- , ship last, winter. . I It was decided to hold a. seven-a-sidc j tournament shortly, entries to he made on i the ground. Owing to the .excellent condition of the playing fields, some fast, open games are anticipated. Official notification was received from the Broadway Club that it was withdrawing the Locusts team and reorganising the Broadway and United teams as from the commencement of the second round. Some discussion ensued on the question of arranging games with outside teams. It was mentioned that there was the pos- | sibility of a game with a team, j and other games might eventuate. Another | proposal is to hold a “competition night’’ when slickwork contests would be held, suggested ideas being a “dribbling race,’’ individuals to run the length of the field, taking the ball with them in and out of 1 stones at fairly close intervals. Another contest would be for the best forward line, judged on speed and control during a 1 passing rush over a given distance. The matter was held over till a later meeting, members to explore the possibilities. Teams for to-morrow evening: Broadway and United; the same players as j last week. |
