BOOKSELLERS’ CONFERENCE.
WELLINGTON. Jan. 28. The annual conference of the Associated Booksellers of New Zealand in Wellington this week was generally conceded by delegates from all parts of the Dominion to l>e one of the most successful held in recent years. The election of officers resulted: President. Mr B. E. H. Whitcombo (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs H. E. Pither (Mastorton), J- W. Kealy (Auckland). A. J. Coveney (Christchurch), Foster Brook (Hastings), T. Adams (Gisborne), E. E. Mareden (Napier). H. Duckworth (Blenheim). H. C. South (Wellington). A. IT. Reed (Dunedin); council, Messrs J. Walker (Auckland), A. H. Avery (New Plymouth), H. W. Osborn, C. A. lanes. A. Ackroyd, Basil C. H. Whitcombo (Wellington). A. G. Smith (Dunedin). J. Gardner (Stratford), E. V. Chafl'ey (Christchurch). J. Bryce (Timarn). E. Gordon Bennett (Palmerston North), H. Rowell (Wanganui). A. J. Wixon (Wellington); lion, auditor. Mr H. W Osborn: secretary and treasurer, Mr Frank Roms. It. was decided to hold the next annual conference of the association in Wellington. Mr CL H. Bennett, of Palmerston North, immediate past president, on behalf of members, presented a silver cigarette case to Mr R. C. O’Connor, Wellington, who is retiring from the bookselling profession. Mr Bennett said. Mr O’Connor had been a member of the association during the period he had been engaged in bookselling, having been a councillor for a number of years, and a vice-president during recent years.
