EDUCATION BOARD.

MEETING AT WANGANUI. MATTERS OF DISTRICT INTEREST The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held yesterday, Mr E F. Hemingway presiding. A grant for the remodelling of tho Whakarongo School was notified by the Department of Education. The department also notified that it was proposed to add about 3i acres to the site of the West End School. It inquired whether there was any objection to the use of a small corner of the land by the Palmerston North Golf Club for car parking purposes.— Satisfaction was expressed at the acquisition of the additional land and approval of the use of a position for parking purposes was given. Tlie chairman reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made for the conveyance of the Awaliuri School children to the Lytton Street School, Feikling. A departmental grant of half the cost was made to the Russell Street School Committee towards the heating of the temporary classroom. The department notified the grant of the same amount ns last year to assist in the transport of children to centres where baths were available to encourage the teaching of swimming. —Received.

As no definite date could he given for the delivery of tlie necessary bus, it was reported that it might he necessary to open the Kelvin Grove School at the beginning of the school year with a relieving teacher. TEACHING APPOINTMENTS. Teaching appointments were approved as follow:—Mr C. M. Tunnieliffe, sole teacher, Tiritea; Mr L. W. A. Miller, headmaster, Halcoinbe; Mr A. E. Mills, headmaster, Rangiwahia; Mr J. A. Snell, sole teacher, Beaconsfield; Air L. C. Mciklejohn, secondary assistant, Rangiwahia; Miss C*. H. Butement, infant mistress, Milson; Miss A. T. Fowles, assistant mistress (special class), Manchester Street; Miss J. R. Sheppard, assistant mistress, Terrace End (hospital class).

Probationary assistants were appointed as under:—Bulls, Maureen F. Ralfo; College Street. Leslie It, Rickard and Joan H. Ferguson; Foxton District High School, Agnes B. McKenzie; Hokowliitu, Nina Botaroff; Lytton Street, H. Palmer; Manchester Street, Ngaerc S. Williamson; Palmerston North Central, Erie G. Whitehead and Una H. Sheppard; Russell Street. Myra Newman; Terrace End. Geoffrey J. Annear and Shirley T. Woodfield; West End, Edith J. Niederer and Letitia M. Lyall.
