NEW TRIBE OF NATIVES.

PATROL’S DISCOVERY

SYDNEY, Jan. 20.

A successful patrol through one of the last unexplored areas in the world, during which the discovery of tribes of natives hitherto unknown with customs entirely different from_ those of other New Guinea natives, have been reported from New Guinea. The only casualty was one native carrier, wiio is believed to have been killed in the Thurnwald Range by hostile tribesmen. The patrol led by Assistant District Officer J. L. Taylor lias, since March, 1938, been investigating the area between Mount Hagen and the boundary of Dutch New Guinea, and north to the southern tributaries of the Sepik River. News of rhe safety of the patrol was received yesterday when the Acting Administrator. Mr Page, sent a telegraph message that contact had been established.
