NO DOMINION DRAMA.
THEATRICAL CRITIC’S COMPLAINT. LONDON, Jan. 19. Outspoken criticism of the absence of Dominion drama in the English theatre is voiced by Mr Sydney \\’. Carroll, theatrical critic of the Daily Telegraph, who is an Australian. Mr Carroll says little or no attempt has been made truthfully to represent the ways of living, thoughts, and achievements of Britons throughout the world. “Dominion writers arc just as responsible as British managers . and authors for this grave omission,” he declares. “There are no millionaires in Australia. If there arc they have never subsidised a play with an Australian motive. No author ever sent me even an unprodiioahlo play on modern Dominion life,” he adds. “I am unable to recall any really worthy, inspired drama from which I have obtained a thrill of Dominion pride. “I fling this idea pathetically into the air. I haven’t any hopes that it will he exploited, but if we value the Empire we should do something quickly.”
