SPECTACULAR FIRE.

SUNDAY SCHOOL GUTTED.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Jan. 24

Shortly after 10 o’clock on Sunday night, a fire was discovered in Hie old Anglican school building in Parewanui Road, Bulls, and in a very short space of time the structure, which was roofless, was blazing from end to end. the flames riting to a great height, and the glare being visible many miles away. With no chance of saving the school. Bulls not possessing a water supply, the . bucket brigade concentrated on preventing the conflagration spreading to the adjoining residence of Mr IT. W. Stevens, in Bridge Street Trees and litter at the rear of the school made the fire-fighters’ task more arduous, but after about an hour and a-half Mr Stevens’s residence was fairly safe, though the smouldering embers of drv totara beams required attention through the night. Had tho wind of the past week not died down, nothing eould have saved probably half a dozen houses, and it. was very fortunate that the night was calm The school, which was erected many voars was a. substantial structure, and was recently purchased by Mrs F. J. Mansell, whose son,. Mr J. J. Mansell, intended to dismantle it ami build a wool shed on his farm on Brandon Hall Road. It is understood that there was no insurance. Great credit is due to the fire-fight-prs ” Young men, workers at tho Ohakea airport, and on Public Works, were assisted by busines speopk and others.
