HIGH TREASON.
NAZI SENTENCES. Received Januarv 11. 9.40 a.m. BERLIN. Jan. 10. Ernest. Niekisch has been sentenced to penal servitude for life for high treason and attempting to re-establish a prohibited political party. Drexel has been sentenced to three and a-half years’ gaol, while Troeger, who was only convicted for attempting to re-es-tablish the party, was sentenced to 21 months, but he will be freed immediately as the period of detention is counted. On January 3 it was reported that the trial of Niekisch. Drexel and Troeger. charged with high treason and 'plotting the assassination of Herr Hitler, had been opened. Eighteen others would be tried later. The trial was not then concerned with the charges of attempted assassination of Herr Hitler, which might not lx? heard if they were sentenced to death on the charges of anti-Nazi activity, it was stated. According to the indictment the accused drew lots to decide who would attempt to assassinate Herr Hitler. Stores of arms and explosives were allegedly secreted in various parts of Germany.
