MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Charged with being found drunk in a railway carriage at the Palmerston North railway station, Gordon Stuart, seaman, appeared before Alcssrs A. J. Graham and J. T. Bosworth, J.P.’s, in the Magistrate's Court at Palmerston North, to-day. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre stated that while under the influence of drink, accused had committed a particularly bad offence in the presence of women. Commenting that they regarded it as a very serious offence, under the circumstances, the Bench sentenced accused to two months’ imprisonment. Malcolm Gillies Rasmussen, farm labourer, of Alangamaire, was charged that, on July 10 last, by falsely representing that a motor-cycle he gave in exchange was his own and paid for, he obtained from H. W. H. Clifton a motor-cycle valued at £2O. Accused was remanded to appear again on Monday next.
WELLINGTON CASE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 10. A largo crowd which gathered at the corner of Vivian Street and Cuba Street yesterday afternoon led to the arrest of Marjorie Lock, aged 39, and Nellie Money, aged 62, on charges of drunkenness and fighting. When Lock was searched a matchbox containing two small packets of opium was found. and to-day, in the Magistrate’s Court, she was fined £25, in default six weeks’ imprisonment for being in possession of the drug.
