PACT STILL VALID.
PARIS PRESS ASSERTION. Received December 24, 8.5 a.m. PARIS, Dec. 23. The newspapers affirm that the Laval Pact is still valid, as, although it was not ratified, Italy received 2500 shares in the Djibouti-Addis Ababa railway, which should be returned in the event of the pacts invalidation Italy has always _ wanted Tunisia, which France, encouraged by Bismarck annexed in 1881. Until recently there were more Italians than Frenchmen in the place, and Italy has insisted oil their right to remain Italians, a “right” which they have been relinquishing with increasing frequency. The Laval Agreement of 1935, however, resulted in Signor Mussolini agreeing to the eventual renunciation of Italian nationality by residents jf Tunis and the settlement of the question in return for some concession which was not revealed. It has alwavs been suspected that :n exchange M. Laval promised Italy a free hand in Abyssinia. The treaty, however, has never ben ratified by Italy.
