MAYOR’S XMAS FUND.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —’I would like to take .advantage of the columns of your newspaper to express my thanks to all these citizens who have so generously this year forwarded donations to the Mayor s Chriytmps Fund. The individual amounts have been acknowledged as they have received and the total to Sate is £2O .‘is. I did not this year make any public appeal or organised effort for fun<ls as conditions are recognised to be much better than thev have been for some years and the Government claims to have made provision for most cases of distress. However, there are always cases of sudden urgency caused by sickness, accident or other reasons which by their suddenness cannot be attended to by the Government at once, and there are numerous cases of distress that do not care to appeal to the authorities. In all these cases I hope to be able to assist with the money I have in hand. . .
I do ag.ain thank the generous citizens who have forwarded funds, and I would take this opportunity of wishing our citizens a Bright and Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year on behalf of Mrs.Mansford and myself. —I am, etc., a; E. MANSFORD, Mayor. 24/12/38.
