Moran are visiting Tauranga, Visitors for the wedding of Miss Josephine Rutherford and Mr T. G. Harvey are Mr and Mrs Elliot Rutherford (Stratford), Mr and Mrs Gordon Babbage and Miss Barbara Babbage (Wanganui). Mr and Mrs A. Rutherford (New Guinea), Mrs A. J. Reid (Tolagn Bay), Miss Dampier-Crossley (North Canterbury). Mrs J, Rutherford (Wanganui), .Mrs V. C, Oliver and 'Mrs Bailey (Waikato). LAWN TENNIS. The resignations of Miss J. Milne Allen and Mrs A. E, Morrio were accepted with regret at the meeting of the Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club. The new members elected were: Miss J/Connell and Messrs A. F. Verrv, A. J, L. Hamilton and F, A. Shaw. A vote of thanks and appreciation was extended to the Mangamutu Club for their generous gesture in offering their courts in the event of the Pahiatua courts being unsuitable if wet weather is experienced during the New Year tournament,

ELECTRICAL STORM. A thunderstorm of unusual severity struck Pahiatua on Thursday night, and was accompanied by heavy rain. The lightning was particularly spectacular, brilliant blue flashes lighting up the sky. A peculiar feature-was that the storm seemed to be very localised, not much further south than Ivon ini, patches of starry sky _ being visible even through the heaviest of the rain. The rainfall during the night was .39in., bringing the total for December up till 9.30 a-m- yesterday to 7.31 in., nearly double the average. ___ YOUTH COUNCIL. Rev. A. A. Armstrong presided over the meeting of the Presbyterian Church Youth Council, when it was reported that the “Festival of Youth had received great public support. When the last entertainment was planned the council decided to give part of the proceeds to the British fund for Jewish refugees. The treasurer presented a statement of receipts and expenditure in relation to effort of December 14, showing the following results: Total income, £l3 Is 9d; total expenditure, £6 12s lid; balance, credit, £6 8s lOd; proportion for British refugees fund, £1 12s 3d. The council decided to increase this amount to £2 10s. ' ~-

Higher Local, Kathleen O’Brien, 75 (merit). W.C.T.U Tim following is the annual report of the Pahiptua branch of the W.T.C.U., submitted by the secretary Mrs L. A. Ryan):— “We have 27 members, six of whom are new ones this last year. We commenced the year with a credit balance, which was later augmented by £3 18s from a garden party held in the grounds of Ml'S Wilson’s home. In March, Mrs Paterson and myself attended the Dominion Convention at Napier. At a special meeting in March we were reluctantly compelled to farewell our secretary ((Mrs Roberts), after which were were left without a secretary for some months. Tho annual peace meeting was held at Mrs Paterson’s home, the chief address being given by Mr Armstrong. Fortnightly Bonds of Hope which were started on June 13 and continued until October were conducted bv Mrs Paterson and Mrs Ryan, T; E. ’ Taylor day, in July, was a very busy meeting, In September were were saddened by the passing of our lute beloved member, Mrs Hansen.”
