Senior-Sergeant J. Mclntyre has resumed his duties at Palmerston North after spending three weeks on annual leave.
Mr E. G. Spraggon, of Dunedin, arrived yesterday and is spending two weeks’ holiday with his parents, Mr and Mrs E. Spraggon, of Dahlia Street.
Mr G. W. Simpson, 1.5.0 L, who was the first vice-president of the Y.M.C.A. in Perth, Western Australia, and a former Public Service Commissioner, is visiting Christchurch. It was announced yesterday that Mr H. E. Moston, C.8.E., Assistant Secretary of Labour, will succeed Mr J. S. Hunter as Secretary of Labour. Mr Hunter was recently appointed to an administrative, position in the new Social Security Department.—Press Association.
The General Manager of the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., has received cabled advice from the chairman of the London hoard of directors that Mr H. J. F. IVlills and Mr T. F. Tallents have been elected to the London board and appointed joint generalmanagers in London as from January 1, 1939. —Press Association. Very Rev. Archimandrite Antorious Mobayed, of the St. Nicholas Syrian Orthodox Church, Melbourne, is at present in Dunedin where he will conduct the Christmas services at the only church of the order in the Dominion, St. Michael’s, Musselburgh. Later, he will visit other main centres with a view to establishing churches. Mr T. P. Fotheringham, inspector for the Union Bank of Australia in New Zealand, relinquishes the chairmanship of the Associated Banks in New Zealand on December 31, and will be succeeded by Mr R. C. Addison, resident inspector of the Bank of New South Wales, the oldest sitting member of the hanks’ association.—Press Association.
