OVERTAKEN BY TRAIN.
RAILWAYMAN ON JIGGER. TAIHAPE, Dec. 21. A railway surfaceman named Clarke had a narrow escape this morning when a railway jigger on which he was travelling was overtaken by a special train at Bennett’s Siding, near Taihape. Clarke barely had time to dismount before the train struck the jigger, damaging it beyond repair. The accident occurred at about 8 o’clock.
