RANGITIKEI.

A return of the number of sheep in the West Coast-Wairarapa sheep district supplied to the ltangitikei County Council shows that there are more sheep in Rangitikei than elsewhere, the number being 1.427,081.
The Mayor (Mr F. Purnell) was in the chair at the ' monthly meeting of the Marton Borough Council, when the dog tax was fixed at 2s 6d lor bona fide sheep and cattle dogs and 10s for other dogs. AlO per cent, penalty for overdue rates will become operative from January 25. An offer of native trees,, which was made b’y Air E. O. Prvce, was accepted. A letfrom the Director of Housing Construction advised that the department • had accepted the council’s offer to install car crossings at half cost-; it was stated that the department did not propose to proceed with the footway crossings in the meantime. With the object- of securing funds to entertain the younger children at a Christmas party, the pupils of the Marton District High School gave a concert in the assembly liall. By a margin of only five runs, the Marton Junction Cricket Club heat the Tennis Club in a friendly match on tile new ground.
