Happy Landing, who won the Carnarvon Gold Cup at Foxton, finished second to Quadroon at Trcntham, went a great race until the straight was reached in the Now Zealand Cup, and then decisively won the Bolton Handicap at Woodville after covering a lot of extra ground during the running, gives the impression that ho is bettor racing up to a mile and a half than over longer distances. He is wo 1 in in the Manawatu Cup at 7.8, and will start in this event in prelercnco to the two-mile Auckland Cup. There is no doubt that he is a very good homo. Being by the Son-in-Law horse Siegfried, sire of the Melbourne Cup winner Motan, Happy Landing should possess mol'O than the average stamina. The dam of • Happy Landing is the Australian-bred Tressida, a daughter of the Persimmon horse Trtssady,who sired some good stayers, including Thana (A.J.C. St. Leger), and I ranees Trcssady (V.R.C. Derby and Oaks), while Tressida herself won the Great Northern Oaks and Wanganui Autumn Handicap and Hawke’s Bay Bourke Memorial Stakes. Tressida is by Tressady from Princoss Melton by Duke of Melton from imported Chand Bee Bee (5) by Royal Hampton Princoss Melton was a half-sister to the Melbourne Cup winner Piastre, and Chand Bee Bee was also ancestress o£ tho brilliant Amounia. - , Following upon two easy victories a Levin and Otaki, Play On, with the handy weight of 7.12, is likely to be very troublesome to.
