If petrol is applied with a cloth wrung out of hot water, tt will not leave a mark whe 1 it is used for cleaning fabrics. Velour hats can be repaired after thev have become spotted with rain if they are brushed with a wire brush of the type used for cleaning suede shoes. A solution of equal parts of iodide of potassium and water can be used to remove iodine stains from clothes. Shine on the worn portions of suits and frocks can he temporarily repaired by brushing with a stiff brush dipped in methvlated spirits. Allow to dry before ironing under a heavy blanket that is well damped. Do not press heavily, however, as the idea of the heavy'blanket is to enable the garment to be pressed without entirely flattening out the pile again.
