ON AWAPUNI TRACK
QUADROON IMPRESSES. AUCKLAND CUP TRIAL. SPRINTERS GO NICELY. (By “Spectator.”) Quadroon, who did an excellent work-out, impressed at the Awapuni track, this morning in his final gallop before going north to Ellerslie on Monday. The manner in which he covered a mile, pulling up exceptionally well, was a good track trial for the Auckland Cup, in which he will start in preference to the Manawatu Cup. His effort was the culminating one of a series of excellent gallops during the past month, and ho can be. expected to play a prominent part in the big Ellerslie event. This morning ho found conditions to his liking, the course being on the soft side, though the going was good, after the heavy rain. The flags were about 40 feet out. Quadroon (Chaplin) was accompanied by Corroborce (Bowden), who is on the minimum in the Manawatu Cup. and finished in front of his companion over a mile in the good time of 1.51, equalling that _of The Buzzer as tin? best of the morning for the distance. It was a most attractive effort. Sporting Gift (Anderson) was ahead of Oriwai (Kanake) at the end of half a I mile in 55«ec. * I Tidal Gift slipped over three furlongs in 43 4-ssec. l Sudan (Ireland) and Brazil (Tcmperton) left half a mile behind in 54 4-ssec. Florence Mills (Chaplin) ran five furlongs in 1.7 i. Provided the going is firm, she may make amends at Awapuni for her Feilding defeat. Silver River and Rarotonga, with light boys up, ■ finished on terms at the end of a mile in 1.53. Great Legion (Chaplin) did an easy five furlongs, running the last three in 42scc. Diamond Cutter was allotted light exercise. TWO FAST SPRINTS. From a standing start Disdain (Redstone) ran five furlongs smartly in 1.5, the first three in 37sec. This was the fastest sprint of the morning, though later Laughing Lass (J. Pratt), who has made great progress since the Feilding meeting, and will line up a very fit horse in the open sprint on the first day at Awapuni. covered five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. She was putting plenty of dash into her work. With horses like Disdain, Quadroon, The Buzzer, and Beau; partir representing this centre, Awapuni will hold a strong hand in important Ellers! io events.
Chere Amio (Chaplin) finished in front of Copy Cat (Waddell) over a slow five furlongs in 1.10, but Copy Cat’s saddle slipped half-way down the straight. ORATORY MOVES FREELY. Looking in capital order, and moving very freely, Oratory (Pratt) took 1.8 1-5 for five furlongs and 1.21 1-5 for six. She 6hed two shoes during the gallop. Old Surrey (Ireland) just broke 1.52 for a mile.
Rolling Home did a round at a good solid pace. Colonel Bogey (Redstone) left five furlongs behind in 1.9 4-5. All Blood (Chaplin) did a useful working round. Parian, the Yaals —Marble Cross . colt, ran the last three of five furlongs in 42j sec. Appearing to be more forward now than he was at the corresponding period of last year before going north to win the Auckland Cup, The Buzzer (Redstone) took 1.51 for his mile, the same time as Quadroon. He appears to have lightened up a little. The Bigot (Chaplin) took 1.53 J, for his mile, but was stopping at the finish. The last seven furlongs occupied 1.39£. Cheetah, the good-looking Lackham —Golden Chant colt, who had his first race at Feilding, took a shade under 40-ec for three furlongs. This was a good effort. Royal Choice (Lilley) was allowed to bowl along easily over six furlongs in 1.25. Sent six furlongs Royal Record (A. McDonald) was allowed to run along over the last five in 1.12£. Ecstatic ran throe furlongs in 40 2-sscc.
SMARTEST THREE FURLONGS. The smartest three furlongs was _ done by La Bru (L. G. Morris), who again beat Vasconcs (Chaplin) in 38 3-ssec. La Bru jumped off with a two lengths’ advantage and held this at the finish.
Beaupartir (Ireland) was coming away fast at the finish of a six furlongs’ gallop with Conveyor (Kanake) in 1.23, the last five taking 1.8. Both were going well. Old Bill (Bowden) took 1.27 2-5 for six furlongs, the last half mile occupying 57 bC \Vhitc Gold (Chaplin) was responsible for a good effort in running five furlongs in 1.7. • Titter and Snigger took 1.8 3-5 for five furlongs. Katesbridge (Anderson) dashed over three furlongs in 40£sec. Bing Boy (McDowell) gave a very satisfactory jumping display over three hurdles. Taillight (Kanake) ran the last seven furlongs of a mile in 1.37 1-5. Chevy Chase (Ireland) and Mulament (Tcmperton) did a good three furlongs in Not under pressure, Thrasos (Anderson), did five furlongs in 1.11 3-5, finishing well over the last three in 40scc. Classform (Chaplin) was well clear ot Deflation (Rae) over half a mile in 57 2-5 sec, the last three taking 40sec. Tidewaiter is still absent from the track in conseauencc of the fall which he suffcied at Woodvillo, and it is very doubtful whether he will be able to race, during the holidays. He has dropped out of the Manawatu Cup.
