BRITAIN’S STRENGTH.
REFERENCE BY PREMIER.
LONDON, Dec. 15.
Speaking at the luncheon at the House of Commons, Mr Neville Chamberlain said: We hear a lot about the alleged weaknesses of Britain, but it is noticeable that the great strength of Britain is hardly mentioned by those who make these allegations of weakness. The City of London is one of those great influences in the country which carry weight abroad. / The Times Rome correspondent says the real sense of Mr Chamberlain’s speech to the foreign Press dinner slips out in to-day s Press comments. Evidently with M. Bonnet’s declaration of December 12 it provided food for thought. It is believed Signor Mussolini will continue to be silent, leaving the matter to be ventilated during Mr Chamberlain’s visit. The utility of the Press campaign is apparent, since it has elicited important statements op the Mediterranean from England and France, without committing Italy.
