(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Nov. 9. At the monthly meeting of the Bulls Women’s Istintute Airs Huddleston presided over a good attendance. Members stood in silence in respect to the memory of the late Mrs Klatt. Thanks were extended to two members for making the floral emblems during the month. A • donation of £2 2s was received from the Bulls It.S.A. for the Christmas tree fund. Thanks were accorded to Mr Jurgens for donating seed potatoes. Mrs Cooper won the Christmas cake, made by Mrs Ross, and iced by Mrs J. Trickcr, junr. Mcsdames Green and Vile were in charge of the trading 6tall. The hostesses for February will be Mesdames . Healey, Cornfoot, H. Gtoen, V. Andrew, Stevens, S. Sanson, Bailey and Blanchard, and Miss Richards. Results of competitions: Sponge cake, Mrs Lyles 1, Mrs Meads 2, Airs Ross 3. Best bloom, Mrs Farrer 1, Mrs Escott 2, Mrs Ross 3. Best antirrhinum bloom, Mrs Ross I, Mrs Farrer 2. Air Cox, of Wanganui, gave a demonstration of floral and miniature garden work. Owing to sickness there was only a fair attendance at itho December meeting of the Parewanui Women’s Institute. Airs H. F. Russell was elected to the chair. Aleinbers stood in silence in respect to the memory of a valued member, the late Mrs W. Klatt. The next meeting will bo held on the last Wednesday in January. The competition will be a beaded jug' cover, with mosquito net centre. The motto was, “A closed mouth catches no flics.” Garden notes were supplied by Aliss IL Russell, and a song by Beth Homes. Competition winners were: Decorated vase, Airs Anderson 1, Aliss H. Russell 2, Mrs H. F. Russell 3. Airs Homes, se.nr. Amusement competition, Mrs LastTlarris. Hostesses for January will bo Alcadarncs Homes, senr., and Last-Harris.

A Christmas tree party for all the children of the district was given by the Parewanui Women’s Institute, and “Apa House” was crowded with children and parenis. The school children, under the leadership of their master, Air G. Abraham, entertained with songs and recitations until the arrival of Father Christmas. Cheers, led by Air Abraham, were given for Father Christinas, the president (Airs Bowen), and her band of willing workers.

At the meeting of the Town Board there were present: Alessrs J. E. Walker (chairman), D. Lundy, F. A. Holland, C. (Price, W. Kearn and J. J. Alansell. Leave of absence was granted Air A. W. Anion. Foreman S. Howard reported that grass had been mown on all footpaths and on back streets; blackberry was cut on a section in Lower High Street; a trap was put in at the water sump in Criterion Street. Grass was scythed on the Domain,

and paths were cid: at the. cemetery. The Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, advised that Air W. A. Jameson, secretary of the National Council, and Mrs R. S. Alclnnes. a member, would visit Bulls in connection with the Physical. Welfare and Recreation Act. The chairman said that he had met the deputation that afternoon, and it was resolved to hold over the matter for further information. The following accounts were passed for payment: District fund, £7l 3s; cemetery, £1 10s; library, £6 5s fid; domain. £34 15s lid. Collections for the month wore: Rates, £55 Os sd; rents, £2O 3s; heavy traffic fees, £lO3 5s 6d; library subscriptions, 16s 6d; library rent, £3 6s; domain

(sale of timber), £33 19?. Dog Tax: Mr F H. Thomas was reappointed tax collector, and the following rates were approved: Sheep and cattle dogs, 2s 6d; all other dogs, ss. It was resolved that the 10 per cent, penalty be added to rates unpaid on January 20. Works committee: Alcssrs Lundy, Alansell and Price were appointed for the ensuing month.
