(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, Nov. 19. Mesdames B .A. Norman, V. G. Claridge, and J .A. Cooksley were guests at the Massey College garden party on Friday afternoon. A hearty welcome is extended to Mr and Mrs R. Collins, who are newcomers to this district. Mr and Mrs Mumford have left Opiki to reside in Auckland. Mrs R. L. Horn, senr., of Ohau, is visiting her sons in this district. Miss C. Cooksley returned home over the week-end after attending the home-mak-ers 1 course at Massey College. Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs D. G. Yule in the loss of her mother. At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute Mrs B. A. Norman presided over a fair attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames G. J Wile, J. D. Aitchison. D. G. Yule, W. Jackson and Miss C. Cooksley. The motto for the month was “It is better to do well than to say well.’’ Arrangements were made for the Christmas tree and all ladies in the district are requested to bring a plate to this function. One new member was welcomed, Mrs R. Collins. Interesting talks were given on other countries by Mrs A. E. White (England), Mrs S. Horn (Scotland) and Mrs B. A Norman (Australia). Mrs J. Mabey donated a cake for the general funds, and this was won by Miss Noeline Phillips. The winners of the various competitions were: Dress costing not more than 7s 6d. to be worn by the maker (seniors). Mrs L. T. Webb 1, Mrs A. E. White 2, Mrs R. L. Horn 3: juniors. Miss Joan Mabev 1. Miss Ella Marriott 2. Roses: Mrs I-I. Sames 1, Mrs F. Nagel 2, Mrs J. A. Cooksley 3: 10 entries. Sweet William : Mrs W. Irwin 1, Mrs Cooksley 2, Mrs J. Percy 3.
