ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH
A progressive euchre party in aid of the Sisters of Mercy garden party was held in St. Patrick’s Hall. Broadway, on Thursday evening Ten extra tables had to be provided to accommodate the large attendance. Play was keenly contested throughout the evening. The winners o f the euchre were as follow: Ladies. Mrs Pearce, Piccadilly, II games (Mr Hickey’s special), Mrs Stevens Broadway, games (Mrs Clarke’s special), Mrs Beale, Lombard Street, 10 games 3. Men, Mr C. Purcell, Church Street, 11 games (Mr Bearsley’s special), Messrs Davidson, Driver and Christensen secured 9 games each, and after a draw Mr Christensen won Mr McCarthy’s special, Mr Driver taking third prize. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs Bassett, Featherston Street, and Mrs Strawbridge. Sydney Street. In the competition, Mrs 'RReilly, Cook Street, won Mrs Tucker’s special; Mrs Armstrong, Manson Street, being second and Mr J. Brophy. Grey Stret. third. Mrs Pearce was heartily applauded for donating the winning prize, and the Sisters of Mercy when extending a warm welcome to the gathering. Mr O’Connor announced that another euchre evening would be held next week, particulars of which are advertised in another column. Special prizes have been kindlv donated by Mrs Pearce, Mr Adams and Mr C. Boyle. At the conclusion of cards supper was served by an energetic ladies’ committee. Mr Jamieson presented the prizes, and on behalf of the Sisters of Mercy paid a warm tribute for the -wholehearted generous patronage accorded the party, the financial results being a record for similar gatherings and the evening most enjoyable.
