PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Nov. 18. The final meeting of the Presbyterian Church Guild was held on Tuesday afternoon in tho church. There 'wcro present: Mosdamos L. J. Hodson (president), D. MoNichol, W. Jensen, H. Jensen, H. Schmidt, H. G. Mapson, L. Paterson, Misses Cowan (hon. secretary), Paterson and A. Hodson. Devotions were led by the president. A most interesting special missionary letter was read from Mrs Crump, who gave an account of her arrival and settling in as a new missionary in tho New Hebrides. Several other short articles wore also read. The receptions accorded tho early missionaries and those of tho present day were vividly contrasted. Miss Cowan presented a report on the recent sale of work and the financial statement showed a most satisfactory position. It was agreed to hand over a substantial amount to the local church treasurer and to keep, for tho present, a balance in hand. It was also decided to hold the annual garden party at the manse in the third week in February. Mrs H. Schmidt undertook church duties for December. Aftornoon tea was served by Mesdames Hodson and McNichol and Miss Hodson. DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

A meeting of the sub-committee appointed by the combined committees was held at the home of Mrs C. M. Stanley on Wednesday evening. Also present were Mrs J, R. Osborne, Messrs W. McKay and J. R. Osborne. Arrangements in connection with tho proposed High School dinner were fully discussed and will be placed before the combined committees at a full meeting next week. It was decided to make a recommendation that invitations to the dinner bo limited to the present and past pupils of the District High School, their parents and the combined committees and school staff onlv. PERSONAL. Mrs W. T. Pratt i« home again after her long and trying illness. Mr and Mrs Blake, of Maeterton, arc visiting Mr and Mrs F. Munro. Mrs A. R. McNao has returned home from Palmerston North. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon, Miss It. Eliot presided and the usual business was dealt with. Miss Pettigrew gave an interesting demonstration of hair-pin work with thick silk. Competition winners were as follow: —Bowl of flowers, Mrs H. Jensen 1, Mrs Rae Jensen 2 and 3; handkerchief, Miss Pettigrew 1, Miss R. Jensen and Miss Hogan, equal 2, Mrs H. Jensen. 3; best bloom, Mrs Miller 1, (peony rose), Mrs D. Hogan 2, Miss R. Jensen 3. A miniature silver cup was received from the federation for the potato competition. Table Flat having now won the outright. In connection with the garden circle, it was decided to meet once a month, the first meeting to be next week in Mrs Miller’s garden. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Clark and Miss Pettigrew.
