PHALANX COMING NORTH.

FORMER MANAWATU WINNER. RETURNING TO FORM. (By “Spectator.”) Phalanx, who won two races at the last Manawatu autumn meeting, will race at some of the North Island holiday meetings, probably Manawatu and Wairarapa. The Nightmarch gelding ran his best race of the season on the last day at Riccarto.u and his third on that occasion may soon be improved upon. Spell For Matoru. Matoru, who has always raced best on soft ground, is enjoying a spell at present and he will not resume till the late autumn. Injury to Baran.

Owing to an unfortunate injury received on Monday, the Bulandshar colt Baran rnav not race for 6ome months, if at all again this season. Youssipof in Work. Youssipof, who has been leased by Mr A. H. Southeo, who previously raced the jumper Tunbridge, is standing up to all that has so far been required from him on the Trontham tracks.

Tareha For Feilding. Tareha, who raced so well at Trejitham, lived up to that form when he won the Omahu Hurdles at Napier and he did the job so well there that further successes for this Cape Horn gelding can be looked for in. the near future.

Royal Minstrel Improved. Royal Minstrel ran a much improved race on the second day of the Napier Park meeting and that effort". leaves the impression that he is not. without reasonable prospects in the Kiwitca Welter at Feilding. Granvale Very Well, Granvale has never raced more solidly than he is doing at present and the halfbrother to Gironde and Ben Braggie will probably make his debut in open company on the second day of the Feilding meeting. t Globe Trotter Promising. Although Beaulivre may remain the classic representative of H. A. Telford’s team this season, the stable has another very promising two-year-old in Globe Trotter, who is one of the first offspring of the March Along horse Safari. Happy Heels Reappears.

Happy Heels has made a reappearance on the tracks at Trentham. Last spring this Lackham gelding gave a lot of promise, but he was never the same after bolting one morning on the track when his saddle slipped, and finally he was turned out for a lengthy spell.

Minga For Stud. Minga is being sent to the Koatanui stud. She went sore at Trentham, and it was decided to retire her.

Trench Law’s Progress. No two-year-old seen at the East Coast meetings has made greater improvement than Trench Law, the 500gns colt who ran homo solidly into second place on the second day of the Napier meeting. A Bulandshar Colt.

Bushlander, a yearling colt by Bulandshar from Sunbur, and therefore halfbrother to Solarium, accompanied 11. Scally’s horses on their return to Hawcra from Whangarei. Ho is owned by Mr G. R. Ilosking, who, it is stated, recently refused an offer of 800 guineas lor the youngster.

Going to Woodville. Filbert is a Hawera horse who will be going to the Woodville meeting next month. The trainer, E. Fryer, has two additions to his team in a Yaals —Gold Dawn gelding and a Lord Warden —Graceful" filly. Both are well-grown two-year-olds. and will race in the interest of Mr H. deland, owner of Lady Kyra and Silver Gift. Retiring at Last.

Lough Neagh, the most colourful performer Queensland has produced in the past half century, is to be retired from racing. Winner of 52 races in 126 starts, and with stakes and trophies amounting to £19,501 to his credit, the 10-year-old Bachelor’s Persse gelding has been a model of consistency, and a marvel in the retention of his galloping ability. Descendants of Madowla.

Onb of tho mares purchased by the late Sir George Clifford at the historic St. Albans sale in 1900 was Madowla by Trenton from imported Azalea (2) by Galliard. Threo descendants of Madowla were winners on the second and third days at Iticcarton recently, these being Great Swoop, Wild Chase and Trench Fight. They descend thrugh three different daughters of Madowla.

Royal Tray’s Breeding. The two-year-old Royal Tray has started four times, running second to Anopheles in the Avondale Stakes, and unplaced in the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes, and winning .the Juvenile Handicap by a comfortable margin at Avondale, where lie was second in his other 6tart. Royal Tray is by Tea Tray from Royal March by Lucullus from March by Marble Arch from Lady Musket by Blairgowrie, tracing to the famous Yattendon" marc Yattcrina. Royal Tray, who is owned by his breeders, Messrs H. T. Bowmar and G. A. Dodd, and trained at Avondale by S. G. Lindsay, is a half-brother to On Parade, Royal Appellant and Avail. Royal March is a sister to Lucius and Queen March, and half-sister to Malatour, To Kara, Te Hoia and Kahapa. End of Royal Doulton. The well-known brood inaro Royal Doulton, owned by the Messrs Roulston Bros., died recently. She was a great performer in her day, winning the Ohinemuri Cup twice and being beaten by half a head on another occasion. She also won tho Dargaville Cup twice and both the Franklin and Massey Memorial Cups at Pukckohe, while at Ellcrslie she accounted for the Summer Cup and at Takapuna for both tho St. Andrew’s Handicap and Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap. As the result of one of her wins the Royal "Doulton Potteries, Lambeth, England, presented the owners arid her trainer, W. Townsend, with Royal Doulton vases, and from a photograph taken when she was winning the Summer Cup at Ellerslic, ridden by the late K. Voitrc, made an exact replica of her in Royal Doulton ware, coloured true to life, and forwarded it out to the owners.
