Meacfcen, national secretary of the National Blood Transfusion Service, was a visitor to Palmerston North last evening, when he attended a meeting of the Palmerston North branch. He returned to Wellington this morning. At the meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, yesterday, the: l opportunity was taken by the chairman (Mr E. F. Hemingway) to welcome to the board table Mr W. H. Brown, of Palmerston North, who was recently elected unopposed to a seat on the board. Mr Hemingway expressed the hope that Mr Brown would maintain the high standard set by previous Palmerston North members, and that his association with the board would be a happy one. Mr Brown briefly replied. Mr Sydney H. Agar, of the Public Works Department, passed away at his home in Khandallah yesterday. Born in 1878, Mr Agar was a son of the late Mr and Mrs George. Agar. He was educated at the Lyttelton School and the Boys’ High School, Christchurch. In 1901 ho joined the staff of the Public Works Department and had experience in bridge building both in the North Island and in Central Otago. In 1904 he was appointed an overseer on the North Island Main Trunk-Rail-way, and supervised the construction of tlie Makatote and other, largfe. - viaducts.
