DAIRY INTERESTS
COMPANIES’ ASSOCIATION. LOCAL MARKETING PROBLEMS. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast Dairy Companies Association was held to-day, Mr S. A. Broadbelt presiding. Also present were Messrs C. G. C. Dernier, G. H. Stiles, J. It. Whyte, S. E. Algar, it. G. Dalziell, and P. Hansen. At the last meeting it was decided to send a letter to the Minister oi Marketing pointing out that a considerable quantity of cheese had been sold on the local market prior to the new season’s prices being available, and asking that the loss be made up. It was also asked what the position was in regard to butter sold on the local market. • The Minister’s reply was read today. He pointed out that the association would realise that no fixation of local selling conditions whatever had taken place, and he thought it would be agreed that cheese factories generally could base their selling price at a figure that should assure a return equal to that given under the guaranteed price system. In connection with butter prices, however, the association could be assured that the return for butter sold on the local market would be equal to that given for export, and it was the desire of the Government to see that no factory was placed at a disadvantage by supplying either local or overseas markets. In connection with the local price, the Minister added, there were reasons for the price remaining as at present, but the point raised would receive every consideration. The chairman said that it appeared that the Government was going to raise prices on the local market by such an amount as would cover losses in the past. The letter was received.
