SCHOOL SWIMMING BATHS.
PROBLEM OF IMPROVEMENTS. A special committee set up recently by the Wanganui Education Board to consider the question of repairs and improvements to school swimming baths brought down a recommendation, which was adopted at yesterday’s meeting of the board, to the effect that application be made, to the Department of Education for a special grant of £677.
“Reports from the architect regarding the various baths were before tlio committee and also a report from the secretary showing the receipts and expenditure for each bath during the last two years,” stated the report. Tbe committee recommended that expenditure be approved in accordance with a schedule drawn up. which embraced district schools as follows: Maintce. Govt. Cmt. A/c.
£398 10 £677 £IOO “As the board’s maintenance fund is in debit at present, it is not possible to approve of any work during tho current financial year, and it is recommended that the board approve the foregoing expenditure in equal portions during the 1939-40 years, that is, a charge to maintenance in each of those years of approximately £2OO. “The committee further recommends that an application be made to the Government for a special grant of £677 to cover the items shown in the Government column above. Application is already before the department for the grant of £SOO for the Central School baths, so that the proposal involves an additional application for a grant of £177.” The report was adopted.
