MANAWATU UNION. MANAGEMENT' COMMITTEE. The management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union met last evening, Mr A. M. Ongley presiding. Others present were Messrs P. O. Skoglund, E. Clevely, W. Carruthers, H. R. Crawford, F. C. Sherwood, H. Hands, R. L. Park, B. Palmer, and J. H. White (secretary). ' > Reporting upon tho match played by the Manawatu representatives against King Country at Taumarunui, the team manager (Air W. Gleeson) stated that though the Manawatu team had started sluggishly they had soon warmed up to their work and thrown the ball about in their usual style. It appeared that through an error the game had gone on for five minutes beyond the correct time, and this might have cost Alanawatu the match. Terry and Thorne had played very well, the former proving himself to be the best forward on the ground. Generous hospitality had been shown by the King Country Union, who had been approached regarding a match with Alanawat,u at Palmerston North on the next King’s Birthday. They had agreed to give the matter consideration, though it was explained that tho annual seven-a-side tournament was held at Taumarunui on that day. It was resolved to forward a letter to the King Country Union thanking them for the hospitality extended to the team.
The appointment of Air J. Gilchrist as referee for the match between Alanawatu and Wellington, at Wellington next Saturday, was agreed to. Arrangements were made for the departure of the team at 5 p.m. on Friday. Mr Clevely was appointed manager of the Alanawatu team which played Taranaki to-day, and also of the team to play AVellington, owing to the illness of Mr Gleeson, who was appointed manager of the senior and colts’ teams to play Hawke’s Bay next week. It was decided to play the final of the knock-out competition as a curtainraiser to the Hawke’s Bay match on September 24. Permission was granted for the Kia Toa fourth grade team to play Hutt, and the fifth grade team to play Ala rist (Wanganui), on Saturday next. No. 2 ground at the Showgrounds was allotted for the two matches, which are to follow each other. The chairman reported that Airs E.
