JAPANESE - SUCCESSES.
CONVERGING ON HANKOW. Received September 1, 12.35 p.m. TOKIO, Aug. 31.
The Japanese claini successes for their forces converging on Hankow, which is now only 43 miles from the vanguard. Foreign observers confirm the employment by the Japanese of poison gas on all fronts in their drive, stating that it was used near Juiehang and Shaho, but only at critical moments, because it was only by this method that the Chinese defences were pentrablo.
