OVERCAST, BUT IMPROVING. Pef Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. A depression is centred this morning just west of Cook Strait. An anticyclone still covers eastern Australia and tho western Tasman Sea, but the centre has moved southwards, thus favouring southerly rather than southwesterly winds over New Zealand. Forecast: Moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly winds. Weather: Cloudy to overcast, "and rain probable, but improving to-morrow. Temperatures coql. Seas rather rough. RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —4ft. 6in.
