HORTICULTURE INTERESTS.

Mr F. S. Pope presided at a meeting of the executive council of the Institute of Horticulture. In connection with an Empire exhibition of plants, it was reported that Airs Knox Gilmer would discuss this matter further with the Government representative of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition.

The permanent head of the Public Works Department advised that, where any work such as roading, etc., was being carried out through or adjacent to scenic reserves, an endeavour would be made, as far as possible, to fall in with the views of the institute against the planting of willows and other exotics.

It was resolved to support the Forest and Bird Protection Society’s protest against the further liberation of opossums.
