JOHNSONVILLE SALE. LARGE YAIIDINGS. Large yardings of cattle and sheep were offered at the Johnsonville stock sale yesterday. The bullocks were! chiefly heavyweight cattle. With the exception of unfinished cattle all bullocks met with a ready sale at prices firm on last week's. The cows and heifers were of exceptional quality, with a keen sale for all classes, especially for prime heavy heifers. Prime extra heavy cows were firmer by 5s a liead, medium-weight cows showed no alteration, and prime quality heifers were 5s to 10s a head firmer. The yarding of wethers was of indifferent quality, very few pens of prime heavy sheep coming forward, the balance of the yarding consisting chiefly of lightweight and unfinished sorts. All classes sold at late rates. There was a larger yarding of ewes than usual, few pens of heavyweight sheep. Extra prime heavy ewes sold at last week's rates, and light and medium-weight ewes were slightly easier. The yarding of hoggets was of good quality, with prices showing no alteration. All sections at the Levin stock sale yesterday were in short supply, which, together with a keen demand, caused an all-round hardening in prices. the sale for porkers and store pigs was particularly brisk, and there was a considerable rise in values lor this section. The entry of fat cattle was poor in quality though realisations showed, no easing'tendency. The yarding of dairy stock was rather larger than usual and the realisations were satisfactory to the vendors. STORTFORD LODGE. HASTINGS, Aug. 31. There was a heavy yarding of iat cattle at Stortford Lodge to-day, which resulted in a drop in values by 25s to 30s from last week’s high levels. Quality was distinctly better than last week’s, and due to competition from outside buyers prices kept well above normal levels. The yarding of ox beef was very small and a line of well finished bullocks made to £l7 ss. The top price for cows was £l2 2s 6d for a splendid entry Beot heifers made from £lO to £lO 18s, lighter sorts, £8 10s to £9 10s. The yarding of fat sheep was moderate, with butchers showing a moderate interest only. Prices, however, were fully maintained on last week s improved levels. The store sheep yarding was mainly hoggets and they shade cheaper than last week, top price was 225; medium pens making 18s to 19s 6d. A good line of weil-woolled ew© hoggets made Ms. VALUES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 31. The Westfield sale’s yardings of beef were about the same as last weeks, and under keen competition made late rates which were easily maintained. There was only a medium' entry of 244 head of fat cattle for the Burnside stock sale to-day, which included a fair proportion of fat bullocks. There were also some specially good cows and heifers, but the yarding had a tail-end of light and inferior sorts. Extra heavy bullocks were a shade firmer, with prime medium-weight of all descriptions slightly easier. Realisations were :
