EDUCATION NEED

AUSTRALIA OUT-OF-DATE. THE SOCIAL SCIENCES. LONDON, Aug. 17. Education, and especially education in Australia, is out of touch with modern needs, declared Professor T. Griffith Taylor who, since 1935, has been Professor of Geography at the University of Toronto, in his presidential address before the geographical section of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. “Much of the traditional education,” he said, “is unsuited to Australians, living in a hot and arid continent resembling North Africa and quite unlike any portion of Europe, especially the British Isles. “With 100,000,000 Chinese, Japanese, and Indians as their nearest neighbours, Australians learns nothing of the environments of themselves or their neighbours, or about the huge, over-populated areas menacing the Commonwealth.” £ Professor Taylor urged that study of the difficult and dangerous problems of social science was the greatest educational need of the ago, but he added that those stating the truth _ about Communism, Judaism, Nordicism, or other “isms” conflicting with the views of the Dictators ran a grave danger of exposing the “Aryan fallacy. ’ He pointed out that Germany was half Nordic am} half Alpine, and that three-quarters of the European Jews were broadheaded Alpines, like the rest of the Central Europeans, including the South Germans themselves. The remainder belonged' to the Mediterranean race, like the original Palestinian Jews.

For several years, Professor Griffith Taylor was Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Sydney.
