HOSPITAL MASQUERADE.
COMMITTEE ENTERTAINS. At the Coronation Hall, Terrace End, last evening, the social committee of the outside staff of the Palmerston North Hospital held an enjoyable masquerade dance. The hall was decorated with masses of greenery from which glowed numerous tairy lights and Chinese lanterns. Overhead fringed streamers radiated from a giant beli, Chinese lanterns, and fringed shades further enhancing the general decorative scheme so effectively achieved by Air V. Manuel and helpers. The whole formed an attractive background for the colourful fancy costumes ol the masked dancers.
Mr J. A. Nash, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, who was accompanied by Airs Nash, expressed his pleasure at the occasion, and. offered his congratulations to those responsible for organising the social on such a large scale, and the excellent arrangements made. The board was delighted to know that the staff members were able to foregather and have a jolly time together. Air Nash referred" to the practical interest of Airs Coles and her husband in the staff’s welfare and her part in the evening’s function. Air Lunn, too, and his assistants had devoted much energy and time on their fellow workers’ behalf, to the credit of all concerned. Returning thanks for the invitation to be present, Air Nash assured the gathering both he aud Airs Nash were enjoying proceedings as much as the rest of them. He expressed pleasure that Mr A. J. Phillipps, managingsecretary, and Airs Phillipps had found time to be present and in calling upon Air Phillipps to speak referred to his great responsibility; without doubt he was one of the most efficient secretaries in New Zealand.
Air Phillipps congratulated those who were endeavouring to promote the spirit of camaraderie that was so manifest that evening. It was most desirable that staffs should meet in suclv a way and for this the heads of departments owed a debt of gratitude to those responsible and in particular to Alessrs Lunn, Atoore and Housseaux. He, with Airs Phillipps, appreciated very much being present. Cheers were given for the speakers and for the orchestra, who had generously given their services at this and the previous social in providing splendid music. The dancers were then paraded for Mesdames Nash and Phillipps to judge the host fancy costumes, their choice going to Aliss F. Ebbett and Air L. Gray as Spanish dancers. A special prize donated by Air Nash was awarded to Aliss Pat Over as a Roman. Further pleasure was provided with items interspersing the dances as follow: Mr A.
